Lake Almanor, California

So you may be wondering who Clive is and what he has done to Clive me.........well Clive is a crazy New Zealander who lives 4 hours drive away from Reno in Red Bluff, California. I got in contact with him through Greg my coach in New Zealand. He calls himself the fix it man. Since being here in Reno I have driven to see Clive about 10 times.....every time I email him about a new injury I have and ask him if he can fix it, he just replies of course!!   It is really hard to explain what he does......probably the best description is deep tissue massage. He just breaks down the knots and scare tissue causing the injury increasing the blood flow to relieve the stain so the body can fix the injury. Lying on his make shift bed (a length of plywood) he uses his knuckles, elbow and lots of force to fix me. It is defiantly a unique experience.....and so far he has managed to fix me.

Clive has taught me a lot of stuff and it is really fun to go and talk to another Kiwi living in this crazy place of America. He has been so kind and encouraging.....if only he wasn't so far away.

So last Friday I made a trip down to see Clive to see if he could fix my Patella tendinitis that has kept me off running for the last few months. Leaving at 7am I followed the back roads from the dryness of the Nevada desert across to border in to California, past a few lakes and windy roads through to forest. I have driven to road so many times and each time it is different, it is so cool to be free and just drive.

Two hours later I leave Clive on Friday with a very bruised knee, knowledge about the sugar plant, stevia and the hope of being able to run again. The drive home was amazing, it rained heavily untill just before the California Nevada boarder so I took my time and enjoyed the rare comfort of rain. I have included some pictures of my drive and my little adventures.
